Cleaning rust from inside of gas tank.?

by admin on July 16, 2010

Is there a way to clean out rust deposits inside of a gas tank? I am restoring an old bike – the inside of the tank was still damp but full of rust as the fuel had evaporated over about 8 years…
It is fairley nasty lots of loose rust deposits and crud

KBS Coatings makes the best tank sealer kits which include a cleaner, rust remover & gold standard tank sealer. the Sealer penetrates the metal & bonds to it unlike Kreem which sits on top of the metal. ur tank will look like new metal again inside, withstand today’s fuels & vibration of the tank and be permanently sealed.

If you will do a search for fuel tank repair kits, they make a 3 part kit that cleans out, neutralizes, and seals old rusty tanks. I just spent the last 2 years restoring a 78 Goldwing and I got lucky. All i had to do is flush the tank out real well. If this is an older Goldwing, I have a spare fuel tank I will let go very cheap. Contact me if you are interested.

to get the majority of it out, pour in some wd-40,or other penetrating oil,add a handfull or two of clean nuts/bolts.
shake/rock back and forth untill you cant get any more out.

Fill it up about 1/3 full of clean gravel. Then set it on a paint can vibrator. That Creem can be good stuff if it sticks, sometimes it doesn’t , then u get a big hunk of vinyl type stuff in your tank.
