Grammy Awards Went Green

Even one of the most prestigious award-giving bodies in music takes extra effort to help save the environment. - A clear manifestation that everybody, young and old from all across status symbols are doing everything they can to save the planet. Even a simple thing as opting for a green carpet rust stain removal can go a long way!

It's been two consecutive years now since the awarding ceremonies took the more eco-friendly option in all its Grammy-related activities. Last year, the 50th Grammy Awards initiated the call to “Go and Keep it Green.” The Recording Academy together with NRDC, STAPLES Center and the LADWP worked together to support renewable power, environment-friendly products and emissions reduction. All these were aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the 2008 Grammy Awards telecast and all its related events.

- Promotion of hybrid cars and other types of fuel efficient automobiles during the event

  • - Provision of a month-long renewable wind power to the STAPLES Center which exceeds the energy requirement of the multi-day Grammy events and offsetting carbon emissions of the Pre-telecast and the arrival of celebrities
  • - Introduce “recycling”and promote waste reduction generated by the event
  • - Usage of recycled materials in all paper products such as invitations, program books and the like

This progressive project was aimed to be enhanced and furthered in future Grammy Awards. In the recently concluded 51sth Grammy Awards, some stars were noted being mindful about Mother Earth. Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift were not only excited about their duet. Miley shared with the press a very cute story about trading her Porshe for a more eco-friendly Prius.

Through this, we can say that the Grammy indeed understands the power of a strong voice – and this, is already a huge and very meaningful step to reduce the environmental impact of every Grammy production.
