How can I clean the rust off my stainless steel hob?

by admin on August 31, 2010

I have a stainless steel electric hob and the hotplates have rusted and look quite black. Does anyone have a suggestion of how I can get them looking back how they were when it was newer, or at least clean them?

I have tried conventional kitchen cleaning sprays and cream cleaner.

Thanks

Try cream of tartar.

1 part cream of tartar
A little lemon juice

Mix the cream of tartar and lemon juice in a small bowl.
Apply the paste to the rust stains and massage it in.
Note: If the rust is heavily embedded, let the cleaning paste sit for hours.
Wipe clean!

I heard Coke or Pepsi can remove rust off a bumper….put some on, leave it for a bit then scrub off.

If it’s just surface rust, sometimes a light oil will clean it off. Navel jelly might also work in cleaning the hub.
