I have a 1997 grand am and there really isnt that much rust on it. I want to know how to clean it up right. Its only in like a coupe spots. What are the steps to cleaning it up, do i sand it down then paint it and second can i just paint it with a brush or do i have to spray it?
stains use compound but if its badly rusted you have to use a wire brush or sand paper and sscrape it off use filler primer and re paint it

Just wire wheel the rust off and spray paint it. If you are careful, it might look like factory.

if its just rust stains, use some rubbing compound on it.
