How do I clean rust/acid residue off the coils that hold batteries inside electronics?

The coils that hold in the batteries are either covered in rust or battery acid. not alot though. How do I clean the coils?

For a minor job, you can use ordinary rubbing alcohol or even a little backing soda mixed as a "not too wet" paste. On real bad ones I have used PB Blaster.
