How do I stop rust from spreading on my car and repair the tiny rust spot that's already there?

by admin on September 9, 2010

I own a 97 grand prix and I just noticed a rust spot on my wheel well about the size of a dime, I want to know how to repair that spot and prevent it from spreading

Use RustSeal by KBS Coatings. Buy their smallest kit for $16.
Great sealer, like por15 but improved. Comes in more colors than black for easier topcoating if needed.

I’m assuming you have steel wheels….you can buy some sandpaper and some matching black paint.. 180 grit should do fine, sand the area well, tape off the wheel…of course after you take it off the vehicle and spray a little rustoleum.. it’ll get you by

Coat the rusty area with POR-15 or Rust Bullet type products to stop it from rusting further. Buy online or some parts/hardware stores carry them.

i have tried many products and found that Permatex rust treatment works the best, it dries to a tough primer finish after destroying the rust

The only way to really stop it is to cut it out completely and put a new piece of metal in there as rust is like cancer to metal.
