I ask because every time I have a problem where the engine is not starting or struggles to start and it seems electrical, that is everyone’s first suggestion. That there is no clean connection on the battery post and cable.
So I dutifully go out there and check it out and it NEVER has been the problem in over 30 years I’ve been checking this.
So how common is this problem really? Not just corrosion, but that it actually prevents a good connection and causes the problem?
well with newer models, this problem will become less and less frequent. motor designers are becoming knowledgable of this problem and are using less reactive materials that are less likely to corrode. but even late 90;s models will show this problem sometimes

Very often is that the problem, another thing to check (especially in Ford’s) is the solenoid (older models) on the fender well, check for corrosion and tightness!
