2.Remove all remaining rust stains by applying a coat of oil. Allow the oil to set on the knife for several days. Wipe the knife using a soft cloth until it is clean. If the rust spots remain visible, scrape the rust spots using another clean knife. Make sure you remove only the rust and that you leave the original blade undamaged.

3.Apply a new coat of oil. This time, you work it well using a clean cloth. Wipe all the excess oil and leave a thinner coat for protection of the blade.
4.All stubborn rust deposits may be removed using white vinegar. Soak a cloth of white vinegar then apply it on the blade. Dry the blade thoroughly afterward and coat it with oil to prevent further damage.

Another old home remedy is by inserting the knife blade into a raw potato. Allow it to set overnight. The next morning, you can remove the knife and clean it with soft cloth.
