Rust Removal From Metal

In rust removal from metal, your efforts can either be paid or not. In other words, your process will either be a success or a failure. Whatever result you will achieve will largely depend on your chosen rust removal process.

In general, there are three ways of rust removal from metal that you can use. Each of these three had its own pros and cons. Over time, all these rust treatments had changed. New discoveries mostly changed them for the better. Take for example the rust removal products. Before, there were only chemical-based rust removers. Today however, there were already organic or natural rust removal products offering a safer process of rust removal from metal and other items and surfaces.

To be satisfied of the result of whatever rust treatment you intend to use, you first need to determine if it is indeed the best means that suits your needs. And in what better way can you do this than to know each of them?

Manual Rust treatment

Of the three, this is obviously the oldest way of rust removal from metal. It can also be considered as simply a plain hard rust removal process. However, it can be the least expensive as what it all needs is your time and energy. Well, there is actually another requirement – that is your tool, which can either be a sand paper or a sand wheel.

There are only three steps on this rust removal treatment. First is to clean the rusted item. Second is to scrub clean the surface using the sand paper or sand wheel. Third is to rinse the item and apply coating to avoid rust reformation.

Use of Rust Removal Products

This second means of rust removal from metal is probably the easiest and most popular. To treat rust using rust removal products, all you have to do is to purchase one and simply follow the instructions of how use it. However, most of the conventional rust removers had been proven to contain chemicals that can harm human health and the environment.

This doesn’t mean though that you have to give up on using rust removal products. As mentioned earlier, there are already organic rust removal products that you can use for safer rust removal from metal process. You just have to be careful in purchasing one and should make sure that it doesn’t contain harmful chemicals. You can also try making your own rust remover using household ingredients such as salt, vinegar and lemon juice for a much safer and cheaper rust treatment.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a rust treatment that uses electricity and washing soda. Compared to the first two, it is more scientific. Its process is also more complicated.

The needed materials to conduct this rust treatment process are battery charger, plastic container, washing soda, steel electrode and water.

The process starts by making the cleaning solution. You have to mix washing soda and water in the plastic tub. Usually it is on the ratio of 1 tablespoon of washing soda per gallon of water. Then, clean the steel electrode to be a good conductor. Next, is to attach the positive lead of the battery charger to the steel electrode and to submerge it on the solution. Then, you have to attach the negative lead of the battery charger to the rusted item and to soak it as well on the solution. However you should make sure that the item and the steel electrode is not in contact with each other to avoid short circuit. The last step is to turn on the battery charger. Then simply wait for the rust to be removed from the item. You may also need to move the item every now and then to make sure that the whole rusted surface is treated.

All these three rust removal from metal processes can actually deliver good results. But then, it cannot be denied that among this three, only one can be considered the best. By knowing which that one is, you sure can make the most out of your rust removal from metal efforts.

In rust removal from metal, your efforts can either be paid or not. In other words, your process will either be a success or a failure. Whatever result you will achieve will largely depend on your chosen rust removal process.
