rusty tools2 300x200 Save Your Metal From Corrosion! In metals, corrosion is the other term for destruction. It happens when there is a chemical reaction between the material and the atmosphere. During corrosion there are losses of electron from the metal when it reacts with the moisture in the atmosphere. The reaction is scientifically known as electrochemical reaction.

What is Rust?

Rust is the most common form of corrosion. When metal reacts with moisture rust forms. Rust treatment or rust removal is needed to make  metal items last longer. If immediate treatment is not taken for a rusty item, rust can eat the metal piece completely. And so, it is important to prevent metal items from coming in contact with moisture.

Corrosion largely depends on oxidation because of the combination of oxygen with the metal.  And so, noble metals like gold or platinum hardly have corrosion. They can’t oxidize because of their low affinity with oxygen.

But metals like iron easily gets rusted due to high affinity with oxygen. The electrochemical reactions which lead to various forms of assault will be determined by the environmental, mechanical, geometrical and various other factors.

Save Your Metal Items from Rust

Once corrosion starts, it slowly spreads everywhere. You can use rust products to stop it from spreading wider. Additionally, you need to make sure that the treated metal will not again get in direct contact with moisture. To do that, you can cover the metal item with paint.

Large metal structures like ships, cruise, buses often have a have a wax based product coating. This coating contains rust inhibiting chemicals which serves as a barrier. You can do the same to provide additional protection to your metal items. Instead of chemical-based coating though, you should use an organic rust prevention solution to avoid chemical-related health risks.
